Jupiter estimates that by 2011, 54% of European mobile users will regularly access the internet via their Smartphones.  It is also predicted that over 70% of all mobile devices sold will be Smartphones. Smartphones  make email readily available to a mobile audience that can dip in and out of their email accounts quickly. Another report by the Radicati group said that mobile email users are set to increase at an annual rate of 68%, totalling over 1bn mailboxes by the end of 2013.

A recent eMarketer survey showed that email dominates mobile web time and penetration.  The survey showed that if mobile usage was condensed to an hour, 25 minutes of that hour would be spent on email.

Smartphones grab 25% of US Mobile Market

Multipurpose smartphones that allow users to access the web and email as well as run thousands of apps and share text and picture messages are now 25% of the U.S. mobile market, up from 23% in the last quarter according to recent data from The Nielsen Company. By the end of 2011, Nielsen predicts smartphones to overtake feature phones in the U.S. market.
